Migrations for law firms

Switching case management software should not mean losing ten years of matters. We move firms between Clio, Filevine, PracticePanther, SmartAdvocate, and CasePeer, and validate every record before cutover.

Every path we support

Pick where you are and where you are going. Each page covers what moves, what to watch for, and how long it takes.

The platforms

01

PracticePanther

A cloud practice management system aimed at solo and small general practice firms that bill for their time.

02

Clio

The broadest general practice management platform in legal, covering matters, billing, trust accounting and a large integration marketplace.

03

Filevine

A project-based case management platform that firms configure heavily around their own phases, sections and custom fields.

04

SmartAdvocate

A plaintiff litigation case management system built specifically for personal injury and mass tort practices.

05

CasePeer

A cloud personal injury case management system with an opinionated workflow that most PI firms can adopt quickly.

How a migration runs

01

Audit

We inventory every record type, custom field, document folder, and integration in your current system and decide what moves, what gets cleaned, and what gets archived.

02

Field mapping

A written map from source objects to destination objects, reviewed with your team. Nothing is guessed. Ambiguous fields get a decision, not a default.

03

Test migration

A full dry run into a sandbox. Your staff opens real matters and confirms documents, dates, notes, and balances landed where they should.

04

Validation

Record counts, trust and operating balances, open tasks, and calendar entries reconciled against the source. Exceptions are fixed before anyone goes live.

05

Cutover

A scheduled switch, usually over a weekend, with a final delta sync so nothing entered during the transition is lost.

06

Training and support

Role-based training on the new platform, then 30 days of hands-on support while the firm settles in.

Questions we get

Will we lose data in the move?
Not if the migration is planned. Every record type is inventoried, mapped, migrated to a sandbox, and reconciled against the source before cutover. Anything that cannot map cleanly is flagged and decided with you, not silently dropped.
How long does a case management migration take?
Small firms with clean data can move in a few weeks. Larger firms, heavy document libraries, or messy custom fields take longer. The audit gives you a real timeline before you commit.
Can we keep working during the migration?
Yes. The test migration runs against a copy. At cutover we do a final delta sync of anything entered since the snapshot, so the firm keeps working right up to the switch.
Do you migrate billing and trust accounting history?
Where the destination supports it, yes, including invoices, payments, and trust ledger balances. Where it does not, we preserve the history in reports and documents attached to the matter so nothing is lost.

Plan the move.

Tell us where you are, where you want to be, and roughly how many matters and documents you have. We will come back with a plan and a realistic timeline.
